Community for A Better Derry "Adopts-a-Spot" next to Clam Haven

Community for A Better Derry, in conjunction with the Derry Parks and Recreation Department's "Adopt-a-Spot" program, has decided to "adopt" the traffic island at the intersection of Rockingham Rd. and Rte. 28 bypass directly across from Clam Haven.

With the help of some heavy equipment, in which time and labor was provided by a local area business, 4 different planting beds were created and we were able to move a couple of large rhododendrons from another location, which were donated as well. We also recieved 4 very nice lilacs, other miscellaneous plants and some great advice from some members of The Derry Garden Club and we thank them for their help.

The plantings as well as the garden and lawn maintenance is all being done by Community for A Better Derry volunteers. Without fail, every time a volunteer is there working, someone at the traffic light remarks on how much nicer the island looks since we began our work.

There are many other clubs and organizations in town who participate in this wonderful program. It's a great way for groups to give a little something back to the community and to help make Derry look just a liitle bit more inviting one spot at a time.
